A-STEP is a two-step training program that was developed in conjunction with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST).  The first step consists of 80 hours of instruction and practical training on the various aspects of sleep including the technical considerations, sleep disorders, performing polysomnography (“sleep studies”) and patient care and it concludes with an online examination.

The A●STEP Program is for:

• Those who want to enter the field of sleep technology

• New sleep technicians who need formal training

• Sleep technicians who will be taking the boards after July 2008

• AASM accredited Sleep Medicine Practices that have unregistered sleep techs after July 2009

• Sleep medicine practices who wish to shorten the learning curve for new technicians or want to strengthen the knowledge base of all of their sleep techs

At Pulmonary Medicine Associates’ Sleep Technologist Education Program, you will:

● Learn from experienced Sleep Professionals who adhere to the high standards of the AASM, BRPT and AAST.

●   Complete the first step toward entering the field of sleep technology

●  Complete the first step toward earning credentials recognized by the AASM and the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST).

Our program consists of 80 hours didactic as well as hands-on training.  Techs who attend the A-STEP program will be taught all aspects of performing sleep studies or polysomnography (see our Program Outline).  Students who want extra hands-on training are able to observe and take part in real sleep studies.  Our teachers have many years of experience in the field and provide different teaching techniques to accommodate different learning styles.  Our class sizes are small so adequate attention is provided to each student.   

Cost

The cost of our program is $2500.  We require payment in full before completion of the course and the certificate is awarded unless payment arrangements are made in advance.  Course tuition includes copies of all power points, a text book Fundamentals of Sleep Technology and other books and  pamphlets used during teaching.  Special financing arrangements can be made by contacting Doug Freeman at (775)329-1727 or by email at dougf@pmareno.com.

To enroll in a class, you will need to download the enrolment form above and fax it to (775) 674-5952 or email it to dougf@pmareno.com at least 2 weeks before the class you wish to enroll in.  We try to update our site when the class is full but recommend checking availability if the class is less than a month away.  All information contained on the enrollment form is confidential.  We reserve the right to refuse admission for any reason (please read our acceptance criteria).
